Enfield RFC
Supports East Hants Relay for Life
A big thank you is
due to everyone who played a part in the
3rd annual East Hants Relay
for Life held on June 19th
and 20th at the Enfield
Lion’s Den. The Relay is a fundraiser
for the Canadian Cancer Society and
features sponsored teams walking from
7pm to 7am to raise money and awareness
for cancer research and prevention in
celebration of cancer survivors and in
memory of loved ones. The Enfield RFC
was involved again this year both as
volunteers and participants. On the
relay course members of the women’s and
men’s teams and family members raised
over $1100 dollars and fared well with
several members putting in hours of
walking, and a few staying the course
for much of the long haul. Other
members of the club pitched in to help
with set-up and tear-down for the event,
facilitated the parking, made coffee
runs at all hours of the evening and
kept an eye on things for the organizing
committee. A special thanks to the
organizers of the event, especially Dawn
and Jason Purcell and to Mark MacManus
for organizing things for the Enfield
RFC entry!

Enfield RFC ladies
successful in first match!
Sunday, May 24 was
an extremely exciting day for Enfield
RFC.
Sunday,
May 24 was an extremely exciting day for
the Enfield RFC, and especially the
female rugby players who made the trip
to Digby, Nova Scotia to participate in
the Rugby NS Regional Rugby Festival.
The Enfield RFC girls played their first
official game in the Enfield black and
white against the Dartmouth Pig Dogs at
Digby Regional High School as a part of
a Rugby NS initiative to bring the game
to regions of the province with minimal
exposure. While notice was short and
some members of club were unable to
attend, Enfield fielded a squad made of
a core of local players mixed with a
touch of imported talent from the
Dartmouth Pig Dogs, Halifax Tars and one
mystery player from New Brunswick.

Attention ladies
of Hants County:
Enfield Rugby Football Club is finally
organizing a women's side to their club!
Under
the direction of the Enfield RFC's
Executive, Sarah Vanderkooy, Adrienne
MacDonald and Courtney Ettinger have
been laying the groundwork and getting
things started for a successful Enfield
women's team.
Where this will be the first summer, the
women's team will play exhibition games
against some of the local women's teams,
and hopefully participate in one or two
tournaments, with the ultimate goal
being to enter a women's team into the
Nova Scotia senior women's league next
summer.
Practice times are still being sorted
out with the men's side of the club,
however we plan on practicing twice a
week beginning in early May.
There will be an information meet and
greet at the end of April to measure
interest and the experience level of the
group, as well as to try to address any
questions or concerns for the upcoming
summer.
Check the
Enfield RFC
Women's Team section on the forum
for information updates. Questions or
discussion can be directed to
enfieldrfc@hotmail.com or the
facebook group

Enfield RFC- Truro 7's Division 1
Champions
The
team’s first Truro 7’s championship in
the club’s history.
The Enfield Rugby
Football Club (RFC) took two teams to
Truro, and competed in the famous indoor
7’s tournament on March 13, at the
MacMillan Show Centre. The division 2
squad kicked things off with an
entertaining 2-1 victory over a powerful
Brock University team.
The division 1 side took on the host
Truro Saints. After flying out of the
gates and building a quick 2-0 lead,
Enfield seemed to let off the
accelerator, but eventually walked away
with a hard fought 3-1 victory.
On March 14, the Enfield’s division 1
side started the day off with a less
than convincing 4-3 victory over the
Valley Bulldogs. After trading three
scores a piece through 14 minutes, the
sides went into sudden-death overtime.
With both teams reduced to five players
a side, Jeremy Loney became the hero,
scoring off a kick made almost from the
Enfield try line, putting the team
through to the semi finals against Cole
Harbour on March 15.
Before the semi-finals were played, the
division 2 team had to face an
experienced Pictou County RFC side.
Although a hard fought performance was
put in, Pictou came away with a 3-1
victory.
The game against Cole Harbour should
have been a tough task, but Enfield was
clearly the stronger of the two teams,
coming away with a convincing 4-0
victory and a berth in the finals
against the reigning champions from
Ottawa.
In front of a full house, the teams took
to the field in what was going to be 14
minutes of back and forth rugby played
at full pace from the first whistle.
With the game tied at two and only
minutes remaining, Tim Loney scored,
putting Enfield up 3-2, which would be
enough to secure the team’s first Truro
7’s championship in the club’s history.
The club would like to say thank you for
all the support it received from fans
and fellow players throughout the entire
weekend, with a special thank you to
Andy Reitzel, of Ontario, and John
Robinson, of Brisbane, Australia, who
travelled to join the club for the
weekend.
For information on upcoming practice
times and locations please e-mail
enfieldrfc@hotmail.com.
Players of all ages and experience are
welcome.
